Presentation: “ Bucks County Operations ”

On 30 December 2004 the Bucks County Commissioners appointed David M. Sanko as the County’s Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Sanko assumed this position after serving two years on Governor Ed Rendell's cabinet as director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. In that capacity he managed the state’s Emergency Operations Center where more than 30 state departments and agencies coordinated resources in support of counties and communities affected by disasters. Many of Mr. Sanko’s innovative programs have been recognized as national models by various federal agencies and the National Governors Association

Mr. Sanko presented the topic “Bucks County Operations”. Included in his presentation was his experience and background, the relationship of county and local government, the variety of county programs (hazardous waste collection, open space, GIS, etc.), governmental efficiency, the status of e-government and the County website, emergency management initiatives, program costs, etc. John Cornelius asked about municipal and county cooperation in regard to such programs as GIS and law enforcement. Mr. Sanko discussed criminal justice information systems, working with emergency management officials, and the importance of networking. Bob Pellegrino and Elizabeth Sunday discussed local and county GIS operations in greater detail, and Tom Hough discussed the relationship of Growing Greener funds with local recycling efforts.
